A great description doesn’t just tell you; it transports you. Listen to this passage from Where the Crawdads Sing: the marsh comes alive, the sky becomes water, and the roaring of wings breaks the silence. This is writing that lingers long after the words fade.

Any book recommendations with amazing descriptions?

I don't mean to label anyone. You may identify as a tomboy but not as nonbinary or vice versa. However, while I always knew I was a tomboy, it took a reader calling the main character of my novels "gender confused" to make me realize that I am, in fact, nonbinary.

So I leave this thought here, in case you needed to hear it.

Unveiling layers of your identity is incredibly validating and reassuring. You got this!

Working on the new edition of my first two novels (below), following "tomboy" Lee...

I'll soon be back from visiting my family in Italy, but I wanted to share this incredible place in Switzerland, only two hours from Milan. Crystalline aqua waters and boulders sculpted by the patience of eons...I felt like I'd landed in The Lord of the Rings. If you travel to Europe, put Valle Verzasca on your itinerary!

This Pride, I wanted to reflect on what visibility, queerness, and storytelling mean to me. I never had the stories I needed growing up—a queer Italian kid trying to figure out where I belonged. So I wrote them.

In this photo, I’m holding 8 books I’ve written over the past 10 years. The spines form a rainbow, but to me, each color is a life, a character, a piece of me. If you're looking for books filled with authenticity, spice, resilience, and queer joy,...

Leda is a tomboy, a rebel, a nonbinary kid stuck in the gendered world of 1980s Italy. In An Italian Adventure, readers fall headfirst into a nostalgic, moving, and often hilarious story of friendship, first crushes, and figuring out who you really are. This best-selling novel has been described as Anne of Green Gables meets The Goonies — only queerer and with a lot more pasta. If you’re looking for a character-driven, warm-hearted book that doesn’t shy away from life’s big questions, don’t...

Some quotes stick with you like scars and stardust. This one from Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi hits that sweet spot between pain and power. If you’ve ever been underestimated, mistreated, or dismissed, let this be your reminder: you are still worthy, still dignified, still you.

Earlier this year, Trump signed a federal law that legally defines gender as strictly binary: male or female, based solely on ā€œbiological sex at birth.ā€ Forget gender identity—this law pushes a flat-out scientific falsehood. And regardless of political orientation, I demand that our leaders fact-check at least the biology before writing laws that shape real lives.

Here’s the truth: science has never supported a rigid binary. Genetic syndromes like Klinefelter Syndrome (XXY), Poly X Syndrome...

I just reread Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi and had to shout about it. If you’ve ever felt like your rights, your body, your voice were under siege—this is the book that meets you where you are.

Told through bold black-and-white panels, Persepolis follows Satrapi’s life as a rebellious, book-loving girl in Iran during and after the Islamic Revolution. It’s painful. Funny. Infuriating. Unforgettable.

If The Handmaid’s Tale made you rage and cry, this will too—but with the bonus of real-life...
