Praise for this book
An engaging and comical story from beginning to end.
A charming and thoughtful read! I loved how the detailed descriptions really put you there. It is a sweet story that makes you think about everything you encountered when growing up. You really transport yourself back in time asking yourself how much things, places and people changed in the ongoing process of growing up. Gaia's writing is fresh and comical. The first few chapters definitely had me bellying up with laughter. I can't wait for volume 2!
A wonderful read full of hope!
Leda, known as Lee to her friends and family, grows and learns hard lessons during her formative years. Gaia Amman presents very real-life issues of divorce between parents as a young girl must make sense of grown-up decisions and yet feel good about herself. “An Italian Adventure” illustrates that children are keener and more astute to life’s challenges than they reveal. This is a delightful 5-star novel that moves far beyond the play of childhood. Hard questions are posed and the plot unveils the possibilities.
An Italian Adventure is a story that will make you feel like a nine or ten year old kid again. As an adult I could relate to this story, issues of growing up and trying to understand the behaviour of adults and reconciling it with what you think of adulthood. I have never been to Italy but the writing transported me there. Very crisp writing, moved the story along at the perfect pace and laced with humour. It was like I could vividly feel that country life and imagine what life would be like if I grew up there like Leda. It’s a kaleidoscope of kids adventure, love, differences in approach of parents versus kids and vice versa. In this story we see that often kids surprise us in how they handle issues.
Leda and her posse members at school and those away from school made me feel like I didnt do much with my childhood. They know how to make an adventure out of life. The story reads like a memoir and if it isn’t my guess is that some parts of it may be real. Tomboy Leda is hit. A very creative author to come up with a concept/story line in which a tomboy girl refuses to call herself Leda but instead Lee and she was basically the posse leader for boys. The boys had to respect her. You have to love her from the get go!
A rare treasure! I downloaded the audible version of this novel first but I didn't expect to like it that much... And that's when the exact opposite happened. This story has held me prisoner from the first few words of chapter one till the very end and now I'm really begging for more.
The story of this little Italian girl in the 80ties is so captivating and refreshing that I literary love every single 'adventure' written in her book. I love all the references the author sapiently puts here and there into the story and how the protagonist deals with her friends and family. Leda reminds me about myself in my own green years and how as a acute and smart girl she has to live and put herself out in a still male prevalent world.
The author has a simple and direct writing style so that you can see things through Leda's eyes and this an plus not every writer gets.
I simply love everything in this book and a think this is a story for everyone, and I mean everyone. For full grown ups and for the ones today are the same age as Leda.
I like to quote what the author writes on the first page of the book: 'For every adult was once a child, Some linger within'
There's a lot more I'd want to tell about this novel to prize it because, really, this is a rare treasure of beauty, but I don't want to spoil the story. You all out there don't miss the pleasure of reading this 'An Italian Adventure', it's worth it ' trust me.
Buy this book, read it, listens to the audible version if you really want to get the whole of it and then talk to friends about it. I highly recommend this book to everyone, and I mean everyone.
I was told to read this book by a friend. I was hesitant to read it at first. I was completely wrong. This book was amazing! The author has a very unique writing stile. She transports you back in time to when you were younger. The author tells things like they are and does sugar coat the truth Or stay off certain subjects. This book takes place in Italy in the late 80's. We follow a girl named Leta. This story was amazing! I couldn't put it down! I would recommend this book to people. Even if this book seems like it's not the book for you, I think you should get it! I was wrong you might be to!
