An Italian Summer, The Italian Saga Book 2
About
Italy, 1990. At eleven, Leda is a strong-headed bookworm and a tomboy who can’t fit anywhere as her world splits into girls and boys. Puberty is nonsensical and irritating… until she falls head over heels for the guy everyone hates…
While the frenzy of the 14th FIFA soccer World Cup unfolds, Leda makes new friends and learns about herself while dealing with middle school, periods, crushes, and first kisses in what will be the best summer of her life.
Set against the gorgeous backdrop of Northern Italy and Tuscany, this funny, moving, and insightful journey through first love, loneliness, and friendship will leave preteens and adults (queer and straight alike) breathless.
Based on the life of the author—nonbinary professor of Biology, cancer researcher, and novelist GB Amman— this fictionalized series is recommended for fans of emotional, addictive reads with something to teach.
Though self-standing, this is the second book in “The Italian Saga.”
This series empowers all biological and self-identifying girls and women to be their brave, true selves.
Praise for this book
Evokes the sights, sounds, and smells of Italy. I look forward to reading the next book and another chapter in Leda’s life.
This book was amazing! I couldn’t put it down! I would recommend this to anyone.
So cute!! I don't usually read in this genre but I love Amman's "Italian Saga" series. It's fun to watch a character literally grow up with each page, especially with the comedic twist Amman puts on the whole thing. Leda is an incredibly relatable character; I've never experienced the majority of the things she does in this book but I could see myself acting the same way if I was in her shoes.
I loved the first book, and the second was even better. By better, I'm talking about the writing. I expected to become interested in Leda's (Lee's) life because life brings depth to your years; however, I did not expect the writing to step up to the challenge of conveying complexities as well as it did. There's a fire here, a real commitment to not leaving hardships and joys to the imagination. You will experience them, too.
